Prepared for Brisbane Airport

What we found inside Brisbane Airport's acquisition engine.

Qantas, Virgin and the OTAs are spending to sell the flight. You already own everyone who takes it. That changes what "marketing" should be doing at BNE.

We spent an afternoon on bne.com.au and counted seven separate things you sell before a passenger even reaches the gate. This is what we'd do with that.

Brisbane Airport
$677Mspent in the Travel & Tourism category last year
The thing that caught our eye

You are not really in the $677M flight fight. You are in the parking, duty free and lounge business.

The category money (as at Dec 2025) chases the booking: airlines at $106M, tour operators at $183M, OTAs at $126M. Brisbane Airport doesn't need to win that auction. Your homepage tells the real story. Before "flight", you surface ParkLong, ParkPremium, Park&Fly, ParkValet and AIRPARK, then Duty Free Click & Collect, Escape Lounges, currency and hotels.

That is a full commercial funnel aimed at people who have already committed to travelling through you. High margin, high intent, and almost entirely yours to convert. Most airports market like tourism boards. You have a retailer's engine hiding behind a wayfinding site.

We've solved thisWe build acquisition around captive, high-intent audiences, not spray-and-pray awareness.
Where the category spends its money

The category is still buying newspapers. Your customer is on their phone booking parking.

Across Travel & Tourism, Newspapers pulled $208M and Television $145M (Nielsen Ad Intel, as at Dec 2025). That mix makes sense for a tour operator selling to over-55s. It makes very little sense for a parking booking that happens on bne.com.au at 11pm the night before a 6am flight.

When Queensland travels

January is your flood tide. December is your worry.

The category peaks in January and troughs in December (Nielsen Ad Intel, as at Dec 2025). For a booking-led revenue line like parking and lounges, that swing is the difference between selling out premium bays and discounting them. Knowing the curve early lets you pre-sell the peak and defend the trough, rather than reacting to it.

One honest comparison

What travel spend actually returns when it's aimed at intent.

These are our own first-party numbers across Australian and New Zealand travel accounts, trailing twelve months (Sunny first-party benchmark, as at Jun 2026). Anonymised and directional, but real. They tell you what a captive, high-intent funnel like yours should be capable of.

On products like parking at your price points, that's a fast payback
"Every other player in this category pays to reach a traveller. You already have them, standing in your terminal, phone in hand. That's not a marketing budget, that's an unfair advantage."

Three things we'd look at first

Where we'd start, specifically.

01

Turn parking into a pre-book default, not an afterthought

Book-online-in-advance with free cancellation is a genuinely strong offer, but it's competing with "I'll just sort it there". A targeted flow to Queensland flyers in the days before departure, keyed to the January peak, should lift pre-book share of your roughly a number we’d confirm with you of drive-to passengers. We'd confirm that split with you on the call.

Track recordWe've rebuilt high-intent booking funnels around timing, not just targeting.
02

Cross-sell the international traveller you already have domestically

Duty Free Click & Collect and online currency are premium, high-margin lines sitting behind a menu. A traveller booking parking for an international departure is your warmest possible currency and duty free lead. Right now those journeys look disconnected. Joining them is close to free revenue.

Track recordSequencing offers to intent is where we move ROAS from good to category-leading.
03

Own the trough with the lounge and Escape experience

Your new pay-per-use Escape Lounge is a perfect December weapon: when volume dips, sell experience to the flyers who are still moving. We'd build a lightweight always-on engine so the quiet months work harder instead of just costing less.

Track recordWe plan for the whole curve, not just the peaks everyone chases.
This is a snapshot, not the plan

A real plan is built on better data than a quick scan.

Everything above came from your public website and dated category intel. The interesting work starts when we can see your booking and passenger data.

What this is actually worth

Here's the size of the prize.

$3.4M+
Directional annual uplift in non-aeronautical bookings

If pre-booked parking, duty free, currency and lounge conversion each move a few points on your roughly a number we’d confirm with you million annual passengers, at the margins those products carry, the number gets large quickly. We'd size it properly against your real volumes and price points.

Directional only. Built on public passenger estimates and category benchmarks, not your internal data. The point is the order of magnitude, not the decimal.
